Why was PurityPact.com created?
Research shows that among church-goer’s, 50% of men, 20% of women, and 37% of pastors struggle with internet pornography. This is the elephant in the room that is largely being ignored by the Church.
Aren’t there already good purity ministries?
Oh, yes, many wonderful purity ministries exist and many of them do wonderful work, but millions
of people are slipping through the cracks. They sit quietly in the pews, week after week, keeping their secrets hidden.
The Purity Pact is designed to be an inescapable layer of accountability based on the theory that most Christians shouldn’t be blocked from pornography as a cure. If you need to be physically prevented from sin as a long-term strategy, there is something wrong with your heart.
Rather, the healing power of God’s Holy Spirit needs to restore our hearts through accountability with the Church.
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Galatians 6:1
Despite many well-intentioned Christians, sinners often feel ashamed to discuss sexual immorality in the Church and the problem is so rampant that you never know how victorious your confidants are.
What is a Purity Pact?
A purity pact is not a promise to be perfect, rather it is a voluntary agreement to be accountable to a trust circle of fellow Christians. It is a collection of technology and ministry blended together in a comprehensive plan that is specific to the problem areas of the individual.
Who can benefit from a Purity Pact?
The purity pact is for any Christian that wants more accountability in their life. If you’ve ever wondered what you will tell Jesus about your sin and you haven’t taken steps for restoration through His Church, then Purity Pact is for you. In fact, what would you tell Him now, knowing that you had the opportunity to participate in Purity Pact but never did it?
How does a Purity Pact work?
The first thing that happens is that you respond to the Holy Spirit and decide that you are going to take action regarding your sin.
Second, join PurityPact.com and fill out the Purity Pact form that identifies the areas in which you are struggling or may struggle with in the future. Common areas include:
Third, you have to install free accountability software or other resources you will need as part of your accountability commitment. This must be done on every computer to which you have private access.
Fourth, you print and sign the Purity Pact document and get someone that knows you, preferably living with you, to witness the document.
Don’t worry, the statement is not a confession that you have sinned in these areas, but a statement that you are making a statement of support of Christ’s Church in the Internet Age.
Finally, mail, fax/scan, or email a copy of the original document to our Purity Pact staff.
What happens when I sin?
The Purity Pact is not a promise to never sin. It simply provides a mechanism for other Christians that care about you to know about it. It’s an accountability pact, really.
We rely on God’s grace, acting through His Holy Spirit, to make the changes in your heart necessary to grow towards purity. The phrase “you are only as sick as your secrets” makes sense to us; rather you are only as victorious as you confess your sin to God and embrace the restoration power He displays through His Church.
When, not if, members view internet pornography for example, a message is emailed to the Purity Pact staff and your accountability partner. No one will call you or make you feel uncomfortable, but you are invited to participate in monthly conference calls. No specific information about the nature of your sin will ever be revealed to any other lay members of Purity-Pact.com.
If you are weighed down heavily with guilt, we invite you to join in one teleconference to see that we don’t bite. You will find the experience quite liberating and it will leave you focused on the condition of your heart before Christ.
